The ACCESS Academic Advancement Model™
The ACCESS Academic Advancement Model™ is a structured, equity-informed 7–12 framework designed to replace fragmented academic planning with intentional, developmental sequencing. It equips families with the clarity, structure, and strategic guidance needed to move from reactive decision-making to long-term academic confidence.
Rather than treating education as a series of urgent milestones, ACCESS organizes the student journey into clearly defined developmental stages — Habit Formation, Academic Architecture, and Strategic Execution — ensuring students receive the right support at the right time.
Through intentional sequencing, ACCESS integrates academic excellence, identity development, course planning, leadership alignment, advocacy, and transition strategy into one cohesive pathway. The result is not just college readiness, but confident, prepared scholars operating with agency — and families who feel calm, informed, and empowered throughout the process.
The Philosophy Behind ACCESS
Before developing the ACCESS Academic Advancement Model™, Dr. Shanelle Dawson introduced The Business of Education™ — a foundational philosophy encouraging families to approach education with ownership, intentional planning, and long-term vision.
That philosophy remains embedded within ACCESS. While The Business of Education™ emphasized strategic thinking and personal responsibility, ACCESS extends that vision by restoring developmental sequencing across grades 7–12.
The ACCESS Model™
The ACCESS Academic Advancement Model™ is built on six interconnected pillars that guide students and families from foundation to transition. Beginning with habit formation and academic fundamentals in middle school, the framework intentionally sequences course planning, leadership alignment, system navigation, narrative development, and strategic transition through graduation. Each pillar builds upon the last — ensuring students receive the right structure at the right stage, and families move forward with clarity rather than confusion. Here’s how to gain ACCESS:
